Work Description:
Artist Statement: I have worked as a farmhand on Long’s Farm in Boulder, Colorado, for 10 months. This installation comprises a series of cast impressions of the pump house on that farm. The tactility of my labor as a farmhand is extended through the act of making this work, which involved multiple forms of contact with the structure in order to create these impressions. My physical engagement with this structure is realized through materials that literally act as the medium between myself and the site. The pump house then operates on multiple layers: it becomes the place in which I made the work, part of my materials, and my collaborator. Removed from the mold of the pump house, the casts I made become traces that droop and tear, tethered to the walls of the gallery. In this work, absence is presence.
