Work Description:
Artist statement: My current body of work is mostly concerned with documenting my personal connection with food. In my process, I seek to find a relationship between food and place. By arranging and photographing still lifes, I attempt to create a dichotomy of divergent subjects regarding Western and Eastern contexts of tradition and culture. I subject food to uncanny contexts that venture in the realms of sex, beauty, and love. This convergence of subject matter represents my experience living in a multicultural society- an experience in which many things seem uncomfortable, out of place, and objectionable. I work primarily in photography and print both digitally and alternatively. My research is based on social sciences involving race and ethnicity, Asian religion, mythology, tradition, and the photography of food and food culture.
