Work Description:
Thesis abstract: I am exploring relationships and the difficulty in communicating with one another. My interest is in the problems that can exist between people based on the complex nature of individual experience. This can also be found in the different levels of understanding and interpretations of just about any given idea. // The texture created in my works is a direct reference to the complex nature of experience. The Vine-like imagery comes from my exposure in the South Eastern United States to a plant called Kudzu. This plant grows nearly uncontrollably as a thick, lush, vine that takes over the landscape, strangling the plant life it surrounds. I used the Kudzu imagery and the imagery of a similar plant called the Passion Vine as metaphors that reference the sometimes choking nature of our experience. Like some virus these experiences can seem to overtake our lives. This Vine [virus] can also suggest strength, new support or a redefined self.
