Milagros con sal
Image Title:
detail view of mural panels II and III
Work Description:
Thesis abstract: Milagros Con Sal is a mural project which focuses on central human conditions: disaster, suspicion, fear, anxiety, and behaviors recognized universally outside the scientific community as miracle phenomena, miracle petition, and the particular circumstances present that would: a.) necessitate petitioning, and b.) include the explanation of intercession of a supernatural power. What becomes petionary, and in turn where an individual seeks out a deity, are visually considered in this creative project. This project questions whether the miracle manifestation and formation process lies outside the powers of human individuals or within themselves. // The conceptual nature of this project which poses New Thought potential includes a traditional technical approach to support the evolution of the individual through a pure and natural process. The logical placement of each panel, its contribution in defining devotional imagery and self contained universe, suggest the continuation of an organized system of miracle petitioning. More importantly, this project presents an alternative method of devotional practice. This work is situated in a public space where it may be received by people of all ages, yet maintains the visual symbolism of the artist and not a collective identity of any one group. Human condition establishes similar needs within individuals and claims of intercession phenomenon as varies as the individuals themselves, hence this project recognizes that miracle petinonting relies on a personal definition and conclusion.
