According to legend in 708 Aubert, Bishop of Avranches had three visions in which the Archangel Michael instructed him to build an oratory on the rocky tidal island at the mouth of the Couesnon, later to become the Monastery of Mont Saint-Michel; this image shows the third vision in which the archangel, exasperated at Aubert's slowness to heed his commands, about to put his finger into his skull; a cartulary is a collection of charters recording grants to religious institutions and the Cartulaire de Mont Saint-Michel, now in the Bibliotheque Municipale in Avranches, is the only surviving medieval source for the monastery after the destruction of the Archives of the Manche in 1944; considered to have been made for Robert de Torigni (also known as Robert de Monte) Abbot of Mont Saint-Michel (1154-86) or perhaps for his predecessor, Abbot Geoffrey; (Bridgeman Images)

Publication of an image from the Licensed Software requires a separate license from The Bridgeman Art Library and is obtainable rapidly on request. (c) Licensee agrees not to resell, lease, transfer, sub-license or otherwise distribute a copy of the Licensed Software, or any image taken from the Licensed Software, in whole or in part. (d) Licensee also agrees not to modify, corrupt or alter any digital image graphic content or "digital watermark" or the like in the software provided by The Bridgeman Art Library under this Agreement. (e) Licensee agrees not to remove, alter, cover or distort The Bridgeman Art Library's copyright notice, trademark, or other proprietary rights notice placed by Saskia in the Licensed Software itself, or in the associated packaging, media or documentation. Examples of proper citation (credit) of Bridgeman images may be found on the Bridgeman web site at www.bridgeman.co.uk or at www.scholarsresource.com. (f) And Licensee agrees to notify users of the Licensed Software, in writing or by sign-on screen display, of their obligations under this Agreement and solicit their cooperation and compliance with such obligations.

YOU AGREE: Luna Imaging's Insight Software and the digital image collection associated with it (the Software) are being provided by the University of Colorado under the following license. By obtaining, using, and/or copying this work, you (the Licensee) agree that you have read, understood, and will comply with the following terms and conditions. 1. The Software contains the University of Colorado's Department of Art and Art History's implementation of a digital image collection; 2. Any images obtained through use of the Software will be used only for non-profit, educational purposes; 3.
