Work Description:
In 1918, Picasso moved into a grand apartment at 23 rue La Boétie in the fashionable 8th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Champs-Elysées. The apartment was rented for him by his new dealer and friend, Paul Rosenberg, who lived and worked in the next-door building. Eventually, Rosenberg also rented the apartment on the floor above for Picasso to use as his studio. In late 1932, Picasso invited the Hungarian-French photographer and artist Brassaï to document both apartments. In his 1964 'Conversations with Picasso' Brassaï vividly recalls his visit and the very different atmosphere of what were otherwise identical flats.
