Work Creator notes (display):
Kerstin Abraham (b. 1956, East-Berlin, lives in the North of Germany). Working primarly in clay just happened when she discovered Gertraud Möhwald's sculptures in the late seventies (Mrs. Möhwald became her most important teacher.) Her ideal is to mould as one would sketch, totally free, with little planning controlling creation. The surface of her handmade plastiques are treated as if she was painting. Her field is body (sculpture) and space (installation) in cultural context. ,After teaching terms at University of the Arts Berlin and Academy of Fine Arts and Design Halle Burg Giebichenstein she is running her outstanding programm for fine arts and ceramics at Muthesius Academy of Art Kiel since1994. Currently dealing with the project "What Hand Does" asking the social significance of the development of duing/not longer duing with hand. She worked in Florence/Italy , at the Archie Bray, Montana MT, in the dutch ECWC, and teached in China (2000), United States(1997,2002)
