Steven Rosen graduated from the University of Michigan with his bachelor's degree in 1972. He later received his MS in journalism from Northwestern University. Rosen began his journalism career at the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he worked as a reporter for eleven years. In 1989, he became a reporter for the Denver Post. Here, Rosen held the positions of art critic and movie critic. Since 2003, he has worked as a contributing visual arts editor for the Cincinnati CityBeat, while also writing film, music, and features stories for the newspaper. John Valadez is a realist painter and muralist whose works has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States, Europe, and Mexico. In the 1970s and 1980s, Valadez worked actively with Chicano Arts collectives such as Los Four and Centro de Arte Publico. Valadez's murals are often focused on giving visibility to a Mexican-American Los Angeles. His subjects include the urban landscape and people of Los Angeles, where the artist was born, raised, and continues to live. His style might be compared to that of photorealists, such as Richard Estes, who gained prominence in the 1970s. Amado Maurilio Peña, Jr. was born in Laredo, Texas, in 1943. He studied art and education at Texas A & I (now Texas A & M Kingsville), where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Peña has served as a teacher in Laredo as well as in Crystal City and Austin, Texas. He continues to teach as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at the University of Texas. He has presented at many national education conferences. Peña has been a successful professional artist for more than 30 years. He is a mestizo of Mexican and Yaqui ancestry. His art celebrates the strength of a people who meet the harsh realities of life in an uncompromising land, and his work is a tribute to the Native Americans who survive by living in harmony with an adversarial, untamed environment.
