Shanel Wu is a Ph.D student in the ATLAS Institute who researches smart textiles design. They are particularly interested in creating tools for these future technologies to be sustainable, justice-oriented, and actively repaying their debts to Indigenous knowledge and labor. Similarly to Mirela, Shanel comes from a technical background (physics and computer engineering) and moved towards interdisciplinary work to incorporate design and humanities. Their work blends their creative and technical interests in textile handcrafts and digital systems.
