Work Description:
Artist statement: Having grown up in a former steel town as it faded from flourishing industrial center to fallow ghost city, I have long been interested in urban alienation, value systems in times of extraordinary inequality, and the necessity of compassion for the other. My practice consists of videos, digital photography and sound-based installations, which examine these topics and how they relate to otherness, identity, the body, citizenship, privilege, waste and control. // My objective to better understand and encourage the contemplation of topics and experiences like urban alienation or value systems in times of extraordinary inequality leads me to create works which investigate how these modalities are created and passed on. I am fascinated by how lifestyles and ways of living change as new technologies become embedded in our lives or as our perspectives change with new revelations in science and culture and how these factors affect identity, fear and desire.
