Work Description:
Artist statement: These paintings embody the shadowy memories of my time within nature. I have turned the front of each painting to face the wall, allowing only a fleeting glimpse of an unobtainable image to be experienced through the reverse. The landscapes recorded on the painterly and drawn surfaces exist now only as an elusive glimpse, appearing, disappearing, and shifting at different viewing angles. / These works stand as a monument to humility. They are mementos of my fluctuating and imperfect memory, charged with the desire for an original experience that I can never again possess. This is presented, not merely to frustrate, but to create new multilayered hybrid surfaces of drawn objects, painted vistas, and translucent topographical maps, epitomizing my belief that discovery is more valuable than expectation.
