The central image is Vairocana Buddha, recognizable by his ?cosmic robe? adorned with numberless images of the Buddhas of the Ten Directions. Shakyamuni stands inside on his left and Rocana is on Vairocana's right. Against the walls of the cave and set between the huge main images are lesser carvings of bodhisattvas, arhats and female divinities (apsarasas).
