Work Description:
Artist statement: We adorn places, things, and our bodies, and alter them to appeal to us in ways beyond their intrinsic purpose. In doing so, that which we ornament becomes the object of our gaze. I’m interested in this conversion from subject to object and from functional to contemplative that occurs through decoration. / Influenced by the decorative arts, domestic craft, costume, and excess, I create works that consider the transformation that occurs through the act of embellishment, and collapse notions of decoration.
